Name: Mary Ricksen
Location: West Palm Beach, FL, United States

I moved to Florida in 1980. I was born in Vt., but it's cold sooo long, I'll settle for scenic North Carolina. I enjoy the change of seasons. Spring, summer, winter, and fall, all have such a unique flavor; here it's just too subtle. I loved to ride horses more than anything. My dog Junior is a character in my first book, and there will be more of my pets in my next book. We moved a lot when I was young, from Canada to New York, and from Texas, to Florida. I met all kinds of people, and I find that the more rural it is, the more friendly people are. I have been married for a long time. So long it's like he's my left hip. But I'll keep him, he can fix anything! I have a beautiful secret garden, with everything from Plumeria, to Penta. There is nothing better than sitting out there with a good book and seeing the palms and ferns wave in the breezes, in winter, the real time to be here in Florida. I have written and published my first book in a series that takes place on Lake Champlain in Vermont. My always home. The only thing like the Green Mountains are the Great Smokey's, and a little town called Bryson City, NC. My next home, hopefully!

Public Speaking

I have been working on my second book feverishly. I still have a ways to go. I'm not yet happy.

This one is so different than the first, even though it's one of a series. Here's a slight clue. It's called Burned Into Time. That's a biggie right there! My heroine gets burned into time!

But I am taking a break to talk about speaking in public.
Yes, this is a big problem for me, and it might be one for many of you. My fear of being in front of people has put a damper on a lot of things. I freeze and have to plug myself back in for a few seconds. Deep inside the words are trying to emerge.

I have great fear that something like this will happen!

Shell shocked I will sit there and try to read the words or even remember what I am doing there! The anti nerve pills ain't working and your stomach has a fire breathing dragon in it.
With a force that comes from who knows where takes over, like an alien, I push myself to say the words. Bluemberglst? Yeah that makes sense. And I remember what one of my FRW friends said to me. Picture them naked. Ha! that just might work.

One thing I can be sure of is that no matter how badly I do, Traci will tell me I did great!

Yeah, that's exactly what I need to say!

That was cute - especially the frogs. But, I agree with Traci, you always do great. Looking forward to reading Burned Into Time.

Go Saints!

I have to tell you, Mary, I know just where you are coming from. I hate public speaking of any kind and tremble like a leaf in a thunderstorm when put in that position. My voice quakes and I feel sick. So that said, I've always thought you did a wonderful job and I know how much it takes to get up there and do it.

The clips were really cute. I think I may have to steal that link, LOL

I don't think you're alone with being nervous about public speaking Mary (I have a writer's talk coming up in June and I secretly terrified). I love the clips, very funny. Good luck with the editing, it's going to be worth it, you know it is! You're such a good writer!
